Within the past decade, New Jersey has experienced its wettest and warmest years in over a century of observations. Extreme events including Sandy, blistering hot summers and most recently, post-tropical cyclone Ida suggest that something is happening to NJ’s climate regime. Natural variations cannot account for these NJ (and global) anomalies. Human influences on climate are significant and prompt discussion on how to mitigate or develop resiliency to increasing climate change. This virtual presentation will explore the physical dimensions of this issue on both the short and long term. Special emphasis will be on weather and climate impacts on water resources, as they affect precipitation, run-off and infiltration into our groundwater aquifers, particularly in western NJ.
